Chesterton’s Lid-Lock flange packing is designed specifically to handle the unique sealing requirements of the tank covers, hatches and lids found on marine and rail based chemical transport equipment.
In an industry where the variety of cargoes shipments can vary, it is important to have a universally compatible product sealing tank lids. The sealant must be able to withstand the repeated opening and closing that occurs during normal cargo on-loading and off-loading.
Lid-Lock combines the chemical resistance of PTFE with the flexiblility of a rubber core and polyproplylene fiber creating a resilient braided mechanical packing that withstands these difficult conditions.
Lid-Lock starts with a rubber core overwrapped with PTFE film. The core is overbraided with a non-absorbent, chemically resistant polypropylene yarn. The combination of the two, gives this packing excellent compressibility and elasticity. The flexible core is then wrapped with a double layer of high quality PTFE film. Finally, the Lid-Lock is overbraided with a tough, pure PTFE filament jacket that protects the PTFE film barrier from damage.
Essentially, this is the armor coating for the tank lid.
