Industry:
Government/Navy - GVNAV
Product(s) Used: 890 Product(s) Used: 855
Equipment: Sand Dredge Pumps
Problem:
Extreme abrasion from sea water and sand dredging operation destroyed all components of the dredge pump. Difficult to satisfactorily weld cast material.
Solution: All areas to be coated were decontaminated and then grit blasted to a cleanliness of Sa3 (white metal), with a profile of 75-125m (3-5 mil). ARC 890 was used to rebuild worn sections. ARC 855 was applied as a smoothing coat to reduce obstructions to fluid flow. Areas where penetration had occurred were reinforced with plate steel which was joined to wall with ARC Composites.
Results: Abrasion and corrosion-erosion from sand flowing through the pump destroyed the volute, impeller, suction pipe and discharge pipe. Returned to service with ARC 890 and 855.
Surfaces were brought back to original dimensions with abrasion resistant ARC Composites providing huge savings in time and money with extended wear life capabilities. After 6 months in service the pump was running without breakdown or requirements for repair.
This repair was accomplished for less than US $4,000 Vs. a new replacement pump cost of US $71,126.
