Case History Report:
CHS20041006-0004

Equipment: Reducers from/to main absorber pumps

Problem: Sixteen fiberglass reducers were damaged from wear. The previous repair method, an abrasion resistant ceramic filed epoxy lining at a thickness of 3 mm (1/8 in.), showed significant wear from limestone slurry after one year of operation. New fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) reducers or new rubber lined metal reducers were considered. The major concern with new parts was that they may not fit exactly into connecting flanges, because original reducers’ flanges were adjusted and laminated on site. Time for complete repair was only 48 hours.
