Thermo-Mechanical Pulping

Thermo-Mechanical Pulping Process: Thermo mechanical pulping (TMP) was the first major modification to the refiner mechanical pulping process. In the TMP circuit a low pressure receiver is employed to steam the chips at 2 bar (30 psi) and 120º - 140º C prior to mechanical refining. Steam and pressure softens the lignin layer and permits easy fiber removal with minimal fiber damage.
